  • TR: Pear Lake Hut, Sequoia 28 Feb-2 March

Late last year we had more than 10 people vying for a converted place in pear lake hut for last weekend. By end of Febuary we were down 2, up 1, then down 2 more, rain on Friday took out a further 3, so 5 brave souls set off from Lodgepole at around noon Friday. There was little snow till we reached 'heart attack hill'. From there we skinned up- battling rain, poor visibility, thunder, lightning and small skier triggered avalanches. Finally arriving at the hut just as it was getting dark- Click image for larger version

Three people (plus hut keeper) were already there. Due to lack of snow they had come in on snow shoes. However, the storm had stopped them leaving early Friday (one was suffering from the altitude and poor selection of gear).
Saturday brought sun, snow showers and fog. Looking back over the Table Lands revealed the severe lack of snow, only lessened by the current storm-Click image for larger version

Snow was good, nearly two feet of fairly dry powder, on the 'front lawn', so we opted for that -

(The tight turns are the hut keeper telemarking on Voile Vector BC (waxless) (I think), the wide turns are a telemarker on wailer 99, the others are dynafit)
Skiing back Sunday we had coverage to the car (wet and heavy near the bottom)-
