  • 14/15 Sierra Nevada (Spanish for "Snowy Range") Thread

First sizeable storm of the season forecasted for Halloween night. Figured it was time to get this going. Hopefully this season our beloved Range of Light will live up to its Spanish name.

I have three month-old twins (or five weeks adjusted-gestational age) at home, so we'll see how many days I get this season. Plan on at least paying for my SB pass.

Was just thinking the other day, I miss Booker Bense's chiming in on this thread on TTips. Somebody should summon that dude out of the woodwork.

I'll add a couple of stoke photos to this post from last season when I get home later.

    And... go!

Congrats LR -- I began riding that same boat 4+ years ago. You have my empathy.

And here's to a strong snow year, may Ullr paint our mountains white and sculpt 'em generously.

^^^ Yep. Happy dance. Let's hope it continues and doesn't rot into a crap layer at the base of the pack.

Edit: And thanks guys. It's been entertaining (read: tiring as ****) so far. Wife's off work until January, and then she's back (teaching) one week on, one week off, with FIL as the caretaker. We've got a good situation. Plus my folks in the Foothills as ski day babysitters.

I have good news and bad news.

Not the 3-footer of spackle I prefer, but it's still a bit early for the season to begin; historically speaking with the skew of the past few decades enabled.

                    The bad news:
Now that Sugar Bowl has an official uphill policy, the new policy is they officially make the call whether or not you can skin up on their runs. They just issued a notice that uphill skinning is closed until further notice.

Thus, the early season policy of DADT is null and void in-bounds. If there's enough snow, typical backcountry guidelines apply out of bounds.

                    ain't no turn like tele!

^^^ Craig, I received that email yesterday as well. More to come from Snowlands on that. Snowlands contacted the Truckee Ranger District to affirm free public access along the PCT after SB came out with the uphill policy last year and started charging. The FS was going to put language in SB's new operating permit to memorialize this and include a map. I have yet to see the permit and map, but I hope to see it soon.

Not enough to ski on (yet). Mts. Rose and Slide from the house this morning. I don't seem to be able to edit my post, so I apologize for the upside down-ness and the double post of the photos.
