This was just TGFTAT (too good for the Alberta thread).
The children were off school last week so we chose to rent them some gear and go for a 3 day intro to backcountry skiing in the vicinity of the celebrated Wapta Icefields.
Ultimately, 3 days of bad vis and hut-shaking wind -- oh well.
Striking out across Bow Lake into the blowing snow.
C'mon it'll be awesome! Have I ever lied to you?

The flats on the other side of the lake were nasty, rocky and wet -- but quite photogenic.

The canyon was in good shape for travel.

Breaking out into the cirque. More wind and bleakness. Snow cover was somewhat thin (a situation which improved dramatically during the course of our stay).
The hut is situated above the first set of cliffs at right.

And the final push to...

BOW effin' HUT!

Spindrift in the breezeway.

In stark contrast, the epitome of luxury in the living quarters.
