  • Lightening TX Pros cuz you can

    For me, zero loss in performance.

    What i did:
    replace power strap with voile strap: -25 grams (45 grams vs 20 grams)
    remove upper buckle, replace with voile strap: - 51 grams (61 grams vs 10 grams)
    replace 2 buckles with BD Seeker buckles: -40 grams (52 grams each vs 32 grams each)

    total = 116 grams less.

    the forward lean lock mech is 78 grams. could remove about 75 grams of that by riveting the cuff. About 50 grams of it by making a fixed unit similar to the non-tour power box. Maybe some day when i run out of projects.

    Concur 100% on the Voile Straps. Except you should be using the ones imprinted with EarnYourTurns on them. One other advantage to the voile straps, they get tighter than a velcro strap and won't lose their ability to hold their position over time.

    As for removing the walk/ski lock mechanism, I should probably just remove mine since I ski in walk mode all the time anyway and I hate it when it accidentally flips into ski mode (when I'm turning, not earning). It's nothing but a baby boat anchor to me anyway. Maybe then I can afford to splurge weight-wise and continue using my buckled power strap (Tecnica Cochise or K2 Pinnacle).

    ain't no turn like tele!

      buy off the internet and people tell you its killing the brick and mortar stores, buy voile straps at 2nd Wind, my local kite/ski shop that has been great to me, and certain forum admins say you're not supporting the online community. It is a classic no win, at least until earnyourturns comes out with its own line of light weight NTN/dyanfit compatible boots.

      that baby boat anchor comes off with two screws and a punching out one pin.

      that could be a total of 190 grams lost.

      and lets not forget that little silver plastic part for the power strap, its not needed either, that got to be another 5 grams.

      and my wife points out, that the pulls on the front and back of the liner aren't needed, cut both of those off and save 2 grams easy.

      Don't get me started on how much Vibram could be cut off the sole...

            Kudos for good mods. Wouldn't be likely to do on what, for me, would be an in-area boot, but sure would if I had a terminator x. Long thought of switching to a voile for the power strap upon velcro death. Best mod I ever made was to add my favorite strap to ill-fitting, too-large Excursions missing the loved straps. Did this right before an 8 day trans-sierra trip and couldn't have been happier.

              No FarceBook, or Imatwit links, but instasham sounds intriguing. Or is that instascam?
