MISSOULA, Mont. - LATEST UPDATE: Three victims were recovered alive and breathing from the avalanche that occurred just after 4pm in a Rattlesnake neighborhood. Officials said the slide destroyed one house. The fire department is bringing in a special avalanche team to assess the potential for secondary slides.

Thanks for the story tip Montucky. Looks like this is a common place to poach turns? Can't tell from the "official" news stories whether this land is open to the public or not. Existing trails on Google maps suggest it is. Comments from locals suggest it is not. What's the word?

I think most years there's not that much snow there. Much of the area is closed to winter use to prevent disturbance to wintering elk and mule deer.
