  • Happy New Year!

Hope you all enjoyed your New Years celebrations.
I headed up Snodgrass Mountain after work on Tuesday to get to a spot I had in mind to shoot the Crested Butte torchlight parade (ski school instructors with road flares) and fireworks. I hear the base area was a big drunken party scene but where I was it was pretty quiet and peaceful. I might typically have a nip of bourbon at a time and place like this but I didn't want to tempt fate for the drive home so I just took it all in and did my thing. I was home by 8pm to celebrate with the family which was also nice.
I had to ski hard (xcd on a snowshoe trail or skin track) to make it to my spot in time and I only had a couple of minutes to set up. Fortunately I made it in time and I'm happy with the results. Then I got some nice creamy low angle powder turns in the dark on the way back to the car. The new moon made things VERY dark!
