Nevada Opera brings Carmen to the Eldorado stage on Sep 20, for 2 performances only. This is not a travelling Broadway production, it is an individually staged full production with high quality performers...indeed, the international opera star Dolores Zajick will be singing in Nevada Opera's spring production. Loren, can we get you to the biggest little city for this? jfb, you want to see some quality entertainment in Reno?

This is the first time the opera has been at a casino; previously it had been at the 1,500 seat Pioneer Theater, which has a 140-foot diameter gold-anodized geodesic dome http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/nevada/pio.htm . It will be a lot easier to fill the Eldorado, which has several excellent restaurants, albeit located in the depths of a casino. Have you heard about their signature mushroom ravioli?

I liked the Pioneer Theater. Nice venue but small. I have to say it's a pretty good little opera company. Good times seeing Pirates of Penzance there with Mrs. Baaahb and you a few years ago. Nice way to start a week of skiing on the Eastside for sure.

Is it still smoky in Reno?

Yes...there have been a few days of clear skies but right now it smells like a campfire and my eyes are hurting. The smoke seems to find its way over the Sierra and settles in the western Nevada valleys.

It is a pity most of the events like that have been cancelled last year because of the pandemic. And it looks like this year it will not improve much.
