  • The 2013/2014 Colorado conditions and stoke thread.

I was up in Currant Creek on Thurs. Above tree line we ran in to some of the worst wind slab and breakable crust I have ever skied. Fortunately it was very warm, blue bird day with no wind.

I was up in the upper 110s earlier in the week before the wind and that skied real nice.

Anyone else in Colorado skiing? I was out in Currant Creek again on Friday and we found quite a mix of snow. Some really nice creamy wind buff was mixed in with the crust and wind hammered.

This is the new ttips, then? Cool.

Northern Colorado on Sunday. Hadn't snowed in 12+ days, so we had to hunt a peck a little more than usual, but still found good, fast, soft, un-tracked snow.

If you decide to go skiing it is always nice if the snow stake looks like this.

Bummer I wish I would of seen you. Did you get up on 9? My legs were toast by the time I came back over and saw it was spinning. I wonder what the visibility was like up there. After the dry spell this was exactly what I needed. I hit No Name, Pumphouse and the top of the pass yesterday and may hit Currant tomorrow. I have 4 more weeks until my Selkirk trip and need all the climbing I can get in.

Last April and May the snow stake looked like that 4 weeks in a row. I think starting today we should do a repeat.

I got it Wednesday but it was nothing like that. I'll have to wait for Saturday.

                          Dino,
Nice video clip, and snow..what did you edit that with? Was it shot with a Hero 4?

I just got back from a Rogers Pass Avy course in Revelstoke, and (gasp $) a day of Heli skiing. Want to upload some of my edited video to Vimeo..

How was the snow up there? I heard they are thin. I have a month but really want to keep my good luck streak with skiing up there alive.

Very stable deep base after a big storm cycle about 3 weeks ago but little new snow since then. We dug lots of snow pits on the 26th at Rogers Pass. So there was about six to 7 inches of blown in fresh on a firm base at the top of Connaught Creek to just below Balu Pass.. where we skied.
We left the area on the 28th, flew out of Calgary on the 29th.
We skied with some tele-friends on the 24th at the resort; they were about to fly into Selkirk Lodge, for a week.

                              Good luck with your trip!
