    • The wife and I rode our mtn bikes on the trails between Ward Valley and Alpine Meadows the last two days. There’s a nice trail between Ward and Alpine and interesting loop from Ward to Scott Peak from the Sherwood Chair in Ward Valley to the trail that traverses the two valleys. We saw one other mtn biker in two days of riding, yet the vehicle traffic from Sunnyside to the Y was completely backed up Thurs and Friday.

        • Wind season is as good as I can remember and we have been doing wind sports for decades starting with Hobies in the seventies windsurfing and kiting. Lynn has 28 out of the last 30 days and wind is projected to last for weeks longer. Lynn riding today on a 8m and a 121cm board.

            • Extra windy today at Washoe Lake, Northern Nevada. Thunderheads formed to the East of Washoe Lake and temps around 100 created a enhanced thermal wind condition. So, Twenties gusts to mid thirties. Click image for larger version

              • Does the outlet of Washoe Lake run straight to the Wonka factory?

                • Ha, in actuality Washoe Lake has no value for irrigation or recreation either except for the kiteboarding and occasional windsurfing group. So, no fishing, boating, swimming or picknicing. The kiteboarding crowd is like a family of close friends who come out everyday after work and have done so for decades. Many morphed from windsurfing about twenty years ago. The crowd is around 25 and on a yearly basis will lose a few and gain a few so no real growth just maintenance. Kiteboarding is expensive and requires a lot of practice as well as lessons, this is a sport that takes a full committment. Anyway, I am currently retired from wind sports after being committed for over 40 years and not sure if I will get back in it. Lynn still loves to kiteboard so we go out to the lake almost daily at about 4-6. I just hang out and practice with my camera and help her launch her kites. There is a couple of gals locally who kite but very occasional, Lynn's a trooper, out daily and is very good kiting in gusty and difficult conditions. We have traveled to kite and windsurf all over, SF Bay, Columbia River gorge, Maui, Mexico, Carribean, Texas et et.

WTBS, she is getting hip replacement next month so to what level she will be able to continue with her sports will be in question. Kiteboard hurts her hip, skiing especially climbing on skis hurts and mountain biking not as much.........

                  • Wind season is slowly beginning to slow down, day temps are still in 90's but morning temps are cooling. We did a ride this AM at 8,000-10,000 and took a while to warm up as all we brought was thin shirts. We do need some rain to wipe out the silt and loose. Lynn had a strong day today, ride AM and spent the afternoon practicing riding her strapless surfboard.

                    Some pics from today.....

ID:	96705 BTW, not her jumping, her hip would feel it. She is probably going to end the kite season on her strapless board as it takes pressure off her hip........

                    • Drove by Washoe last week. Good to see the water level within striking distance of 395. With a bit o' luck, I'll be sailing there June 2020.

                      ain't no turn like tele!

                        Does that mean moving back?

With luck, eventually. Just a fly-by in 2020. Hoping to do the Ikon and then spend a month in the Sierra between Tahoe, Mammoth, and Bishop. That alone would justify the Ikon, but access to all the other slopes in the Rockies pretty much guarantees that purchase. Heck, it's even cheaper than groveling for a press pass. ;-)

                          • Signs of season change coming? Temps dropping in Washoe Valley and dusting off full wetsuits for wind sports.
5mm semi dry and temps last nite were 39 at the house......... pic from yesterday

                            • Low 90's the past two days and windy too, however frontal activity coming and potential snow on Mon. We did have a dusting of snow a week ago on Mt. Rose hiway at 8,900. So, probably less than a few more kiting days left then just MTB ride till we get some legitimate snow to tour on. In years past we have toured in Oct but not lately. Anyway, last pics of wind sports in Northern Nevada.........

                              From today
Our friend Jerry who only rides a surfboard toe side and heel side without changing his feet. Second pic is one of our locals who is a young guy and about 275# Big guy big kite and crushes heavy air........... Lynn is a cruiser and a master at gusty and up and down conditions. Her hip doesn't do well with jumping or spinning so she spends her time snaking the gusts and staying in the good wind.

                              • The wife and I are in Kauai, north shore. Looks like the trades are leaving for a few days so no wind sports. I went from a 4/3 wetsuit surfing in Santa Cruz, windsurfing in the Bay to just surf trunks and a rash guard!
