The Inyo National Forest has released a draft assessment of the national forest that will guide its ongoing plan revision. The assessment almost completely fails to acknowledge the importance of the Inyo (including greaterTioga Pass) to the backcountry ski community. Please tell them that backcountry skiing in the Inyo is important to you (both skinning and Nordic touring) and that this importance should be acknowledged in the draft assessment. Hurry! Input can be provided through December 16 by email ([email protected]) or by mail (Forest Plan Revision, Inyo National Forest, 351 Pacu Lane, Suite 200, Bishop, CA 93514).
PS this is not just a skier vs. snowmobiler issue. There are broader issues of preserving access and the Inyo seems to fail to appreciate the degree the backcountry ski community cherishes this area.
