    The Northern Rockies Thread

Conditons, trips, sightings..To include the east-slope of the Cascades,
the Wallowas, and the Blues as well as The Selkirks of N Idaho and the
    Northern Rockies per se...

Skied a long day at the pass yesterday..Hovered around 0 F
at the summit..Got one pic, as no one was willing to fool
with a camera! Beautiful day..Montana side opened with 4 inches-
to-a-foot of untouched freeze-dried powder..Top 1/3 of the Montana side
was great, the rest was running gates of saplings!
Kathy on her new Vokyl Kikus..Nice resort and pow ski!
They should be great for the trees..
We shot off under the lift on the N

side to see how her skis would handle the crust over a foot of untouched pow..
Nice expensive gloves..ha, I stayed warm with a wool glove in a wool mitten in
an arctic mitten shell from the Army/Navy store..
O yea, saw Td in lodge bar..Couldn't drag
    him back out!

Ron will have to pick up my slack...I don't generally post TR's or take/post pics when I ski.

A place close to my heart! Have never skiied anywhere as spectacular as the Wallowas (maybe I can contribute a TR 4 years post-hoc?), and my summer exposure to NE WA and the Panhandle made me yearn to return in the colder months. Thanks for posting.

Totally great Snotel mapping update integrated with Google Maps!

Fly east, north, south or west..set the density (# of monitoring units per ) how
you wish..Works well in Canada and even parts of Mexico! Use the - and + for
zoom (scroll wheel does not work yet.)..Takes time to load the data at times, be patient.. Way to go NWS!

Here are some photos from a March 2010 trip to McCully basin in the Wallowas, OR. We spent four nights in the yurt-complex (sauna yurt!) there. Conditions ranged from blower to corn to styrofoam. Still one of my skiing-life highlights. The remoteness and uniqueness of the range really sets it apart. Highly recommended.

Warming temps area-wide up here, with snow slowly
accumulating in the mountains --especially on the B. Crest..
W/E looks good..maybe a fresh foot by Sunday.

HA HA Td! About time someone got to ski Silver!
I dunno, it might be 2 days of insanity at Schweitz, but
the mountain is open so there's lotsa acreage and with
more coverage in the next few days, maybe some tree
skiing will be reasonable ? Might hit Lookout Thursday
as there's 5 fresh inches the last 24 and temps are great..
Check out this mapping, Td..easily monitor conditions locally
                              or across the country..

Set density to 2 or 3..
