            Seconded.

There's always the WOT for that stuff.

I would actually prefer it if all the silly space filling threads were moved here. There were a few things at Ttips that got old. The endless parade of threads that were only trying to be clever was one of them.

James, that's the goal. Should keep that first page interesting once the flakes really fly.

Then this forum is incorrectly named. The "W" in WOT stands for "Way", as non-controversial off topic threads were acceptable in the main forum at TTips and (until this thread move) seemed to be ok here too. Now, I don't care about bacon threads per se, but what about other non-skiing-related threads? In the main forum, on the first two pages alone there's a biking thread or 5, a "netflix" thread, a running thread, a hiking thread, a "my son got his car stolen" thread, a dog pic thread, a lasik thread, a -- well, you get the point. Suddenly, a bacon thread was over the line? This isn't Nam, there are rules? Am I wrong?

It seems pretty random, based on the individual preferences of the mods. They like bikes, etc., so that stays on the main page. It really takes away credibility when moderation is done this way.

I'm trying hard not to criticize the moderation right now, as it's a thankless job and also a difficult one, made all the more difficult by the fact that this place started from scratch, so there's no old crusty mod to show the new guy the ropes. Still, the moderation team does need to understand that in all things, consistency should be paramount. That doesn't mean that every OT post must meet the same end, but there has to be a consistent rationale for why some get to stay and why some require moving. I could, for example, devise a rationale that allows hiking and biking threads to stay and this one get moved, but can't really come up with one that allows the stolen car or dog threads to stay. Of course, "Dostie says so" is a fine rationale; but "random moderator decided it was so" is more tenuous.

Hey, we all need an editor and some moderation...so log your critcism here and we/I will take it into account. At the moment it is sort of a junk show for consistency because we moderators are still hashing things out a bit. Nor is this a "job" for anyone, it is all volunteer time. Thus, things that might get done more quickly if we were more organized and had meeting times and all that are taking a bit more time to reach any conclusion, let alone any action.

I'm sure that this thread was moved because of the historical precedent set for silly bacon threads devolving into juvvy behavior. I didn't do it, I don't know who did, but I approve the move. As for other threads that should maybe be here...that depends. Mt. Bike threads and such are okay in my book because they are more or less on the subject of being about human powered sports, i.e., earning one's turns, and provide valuable information. Even silly dog pic threads are cool there. What's controversial about dog pics?

The biggest factor affecting moving threads to w.o.t. snark? is the presence or probability of the posts in the thread shifting to way off topic comments which tends to create animosity and juvenile insults back and forth, plus political rants and generally unsocial posts and 'tudes. Kind of a nebulous criteria I admit and I'm trusting the guys who volunteered to be moderators to adopt that perspective. Hopefully. Maybe.

                            ain't no turn like tele!

Dude, a bunch of self-absorbed, middle-aged, douchebags jerking off with endless pictures of themselves rolling around in their own mundanity surely is "interesting" - but not for the reasons you think, I suspect.

Would you like to go grab a locally brewed craft beer and have a surprisingly spontaneous sounding conversation which we gently steer in directions in which we can highlight our fun and quirky lifestyles and left-of-center political views?"
