    Ava Blanche - heartbreaking news

I am at a loss for words.

The world just grew a little dimmer for me.

Rest in peace, Frank, and know that you touched so many lives.

Oh no, what happened? Can you share it here or with me via PM?

      From Bivouac:

As you know, Frank Baumann has been a long time supporter and has contributed dozens of articles to this website. I heard on Oct 25th that he had been involved in a serious car accident. He had given a talk to the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists in Whistler at 10:00 AM Thursday, then planned to make a one day trip to Goldbridge and back, where he was involved in some field work on the Jamie Creek IPP. He planned to be back in Whistler on Friday morning to take some of the other engineers for a tour of some new avalanche prevention facilities behind Whistler.
Apparently he went off the bridge in Pemberton Meadows that crosses the Lillooet. (The start of the upper Lillooet FSR). His car left the road and fell approximately 8 metres down to the Lillooet River. Frank sustained critical head and chest injuries including a broken neck and was transported to the Pemberton health centre and then subsequently airlifted to VGH where he had since been on life support. I have now been informed of the sad news that Frank passed away at 9:30 this morning, November 1, 2013.

Aw man, that sucks. Thanks SteveK for sharing it though. He led a very interesting life, I'm glad he was some part of mine, little as it was.

I knew Frank a little offline. He was a passionate and able advocate for avalanche safety. We are all poorer for his passing. RIP Frank, I will always remember you.

                Major bummer.

Another member of the tribe gone. Reminds me of jfeller: http://legal-planet.org/2013/04/09/i...law-professor/
