Maybe the bears have messed with the date on the camera to avoid crowds of gawkers?
On another note, while the bears scared us away from an actual excursion to Highwood, I hiked SSV on Sunday for a pleasant day of novelty skiing. We hiked to the goats eye station where it was possible to skin. Snow conditions were approx 8 cm of fresh atop a melt freeze crust with HS= 15 cm at goats eye, 30 cm at Wolverine summit and maybe a bit more above the village. There were some actual turns found and lots of skiing carefully through crunchy bits and the occasional rock.

Things are looking much improved.
BUT NOW THERE'S BEARS EVERYWHERE!
note: the date on their cam is wrong, this screen grab is from Sat, Nov 1.

That organization hasn't been relevant in the ski world for a long time IMHO.
All their sheepcams have long since wandered off or been shot.
The only one still functioning that is anywhere near the pass doesn't look promising:

Highwood Advice?
For some reason, the recent chill in the air and hints of white up high to the west of Calgary find me pondering Highwood Pass and the merits of visiting. Isn't there a society with resources to track conditions and provide advice along with informative photos?Tags: None
