  • Good Bye BD you haven't been releavent in the teleworld for a long time IMHO

Just read the unsurprising news that BD is planning to stop producing telemark boots. Makes complete sense when their stuff is several hundred grams heavier than Scarpa's NTN offerings. My main issue besides the boots being horribly stiff in the wrong places is the failure of BD to fix the 01 for boots spanning the small/large binding. The only way to make the O1 work for a Mondo 25 boot was with customer fraken binding add-ons. I moved on to NTN after several years of skiing the O1 bindings using heel straps from the 03. I won't miss you.

BD tele boots was one huge investment followed by years of changing the colors, no? Basically no changes to the molds from day one?

There must be a boot volume/fit that would serve the maximum number of customers. I suspect they missed it.

Sure, sign of the times. We both got BD boots when they came out Push and Stilletto for resort tele and big ski BC. The boots were way heavy, pounds heavier than advertised. I think this was a factor in us going to AT and cutting way back on any tele except for low angle tours. The boots themselves, for us, actually skied the down pretty good and had a lot of bells and whistles but coming out with a product late in the game with tele tanking doesn't make sense. I think their AT boots will be next, same problem, too heavy for touring compared.........

Sine I still ski the 3- pin hardwire I was disappointed with the lack of a 3-pin duckbill, kept me out of their market. Sure did not see the point of vandalizing new boots so I could use them.

Not even a smile plate will help a BD tele boot enough to make them competitive in the marketplace. Their shells are not scalable throughout the size run--just try having a small foot and see how easy it isn't to close the boot and not have the buckles interfere with each other--and their application of the boa liner is nothing more than a bad execution of a proven, good idea. And don't even get me started on how poor a design their tele bindings are. I am actually surprised they didn't pull the plug sooner. If they had streamlined and focused all the resources they put into tele on AT, they might have been able to save the backcountry category. They finally figured out how to design good skis and I hope at least they remain committed to that.

I am confused. (what else is new?) does this include Scarpa boots? Didn't BD buy Scarpa?

                  BD has never owned Scarpa.

                    No.

A long time ago they distributed Scarpa N.A., if I recall correctly. Maybe that's where you're getting that information?

Wasn't the original Terminator a BD/Scarpa joint effort?

Might be confusing this with the Frischi/BD cross-jointed Skyhoy?

So I didn't need to buy two pair of scarpa boots at the STP fire sale? Thank God one pair is for the wife.

Always a good idea to invest in Scarpa.
