  • New 'zine-"Ascent Backcountry Journal"

I searched EYT and seeing no evidence of a previous entry, decided to post this. I got a hardcopy of this slick looking journal at the PowderWhores showing in SF from Jonah H this week. Some nice articles in it, including one by Dostie.

    The best part.....it's free!

What mchin said. I got mine at the 'Ho-Show in Berkeley and was similarly impressed. I'd pay money for it.
It's turns! Of course it's worth the hike!

Looks like a fine slick, Western focussed, not distributed in the East....drat!

I'm definitely blown away at how glossy this freebie is. Very nice. Pick it up. Oh and I wrote two articles, not one.

RRM - You can get a copy...y'all need to subscribe though so a copy gets sent your way. First issue is worth it.

          ain't no turn like tele!

How do you do that? I can't find a link on the site.

Ditto this. I missed the PW show this year with bambinos at home. The Contact and About links on the site are dead.

Craig, you think they'd want an article on extreme meadow skipping?

The name is Ascent, not Skipping.

Why show descending pics? And isn't it all skipping on downhills with fat enough skis?

Thanks for the interest in the new magazine, and for future support. The model of the magazine is to be distributed free, and circulation is going to be primarily focused in the western US. As things hopefully get rolling along, I can look at expanding the circulation/distribution, but am also aiming to keep the quality high, and consequently, there will always be a bit of scarcity to it. You can't count on picking it up on your local newsstand or bookstore. Subscription is a pain in the ass, time consuming and expensive, especially for a small publisher such as myself (just ask Dostie).
That said, it sounds like I am forced to take a look at it, due to the positive response of the mag in the past few weeks. It won't be cheap however, as I can't spend my days stuffing envelopes, and my kids are still too young to do it for me.
Back to you- is this something you would be willing to pay $20-$25- $30?a year for three issues?
