  • Tahoe Area Ski Swaps

Yeah, I'm lazy. So sue me. Plus, whenever I search for these, I find out when the swaps were last year. Seems like it helps to be on some mailing list...

Anyway, when and where? Maybe I can get some of those skis everyone raved about two years ago. Or maybe I can just get some more skis for the heck of it. THX.

Those swaps mostly suck. Seriously, why not buy the gear you really want instead of just something that will work or somebody's extra crap? People think their used gear is worth more than the fire sale price that it should go for. I always laugh at the people who are going to "cash in" with their old garbage. Have you ever seen all the abandoned gear after the swap? Good excuse not to have to drive and pay for the dump.

Around here some shops and clubs also have stuff for sale so it isn't all old junk. At one a few weeks ago there were some Annum's in my size still in plastic for an OK price. I wasn't looking for Annum's so i kept walking.

Some of the swaps suck, some don't. I've made some awesome scores and there's a good reason a few of them have significant lines when they open.

Starthaus is supposed to have a good one. Think it's early though... like September.

^^^ The Start Haus consignment sale is Labor Day weekend. An old ski retailers tradition that seemed to end shortly after I moved to the land of nuts and fruits. It was listed in the Events Calendar on EYT.

For the hard of hearing, there is an events calendar on the host site. You are encouraged to add relevant events* you know of there and here if you must, but there first (puhleez).

              * - ski movies, avy classes, fund raisers, slide show/video presentations, demo days, ski tours. Yes, guides are encouraged to post their events there. If it isn't relevant, it won't be approved. Mouse over the Events link, then Add My Event. Many locations (venues) and organizers are already entered and can be grabbed from a pull down menu. Thanks for playing.

Hey Baaahb, what are you looking for? Don't think you will find any NTN or Dynafit at a swap. Go on CL, lots of deals on BC and AT gear locally.

For example:http://reno.craigslist.org/spo/4720566251.html this would be a steal for around $600

It's actually the 8th this year (second Saturday). http://www.tdrpd.com/pdf/Flyers/ski%20swap%202014.pdf

OK, Dostie, I tried to add the Tahoe XC ski swap to your calendar, but so many questions! Its Nov 15, and one of the best. Now I have to find the Sky Tavern swap, also one of the best. Damn, y'all are WORTHLESS. QZ, among other things, I need a a backup pair of boundless. Say what you will, but it's one of the lightest most versatile skis out there. NTN? Dynafit? Not on the radar but you never know what you might find. I'll take $150 and not be afraid to spend it ALL.

Edit - Sky Tavern swap Nov 21, 22, next to Reno Costco

Baaahb, how you haven't picked up a pair of Vector BCs (or even Chargers) yet is beyond me. Pretty high on my list, but I'd have to think they'd be right in your wheelhouse.

FWIW, Bobo's just spammed me that they are having a swap this Sat and Sun. No idea of the quality.
It's turns! Of course it's worth the hike!

Zactly,^^ for me, I won't ever ski a non tip rockered ski again and you won't find any BC type rockered ski at a kiddie swap like the Sky Tavern swap or any others. Reason being is that a rockered ski won't stuff as easially especially tele. Stuffing a ski in and a twisting fall at my age could be a career ended. Same for someone with mechanical body parts. So I will increase my odds with that and releasable most of the time as well.

I love my Vector BC's/X2/Eco's, lots of rocker and float and just easy to ski and climb. I skied with a guy last year a couple of times who was on Charger BC's/Dynafits and he skied all the terrain easially as well and had good things to say about that ski as well.

I see you tried but that was one of the lamest attempts I've ever seen. You didn't do squat except indicate there is a swap meet, it's name is Tahoe City XC and the date is Nov. 15th. The Event Calendar is a full service calendar and it requires complete information (as it should). Otherwise it's just a lame ass notification which is what most folks do on this forum giving half the info and expecting the viewer to find the rest. The point of the calendar is to provide all the info - date, time, location, cost, etcetera. If you do a modicum of data entry IT provides a Google map, links to the Venue, the Organizer, and if you know it, where to buy tickets.

Now go back and add the rest of that info or you'll get burnt flesh and no beer at the Beacon BBQ.

                              Well, well, well, I never....

The calendar entry is really for folks sponsoring events. It would take me an hour to find all the info requested...I even had to guess at things that you might think would be easy to find, such as the starting hour....but no.....

I thought burnt flesh was the point of the BBQ....still hoping there will be some TJ's cider. BTW, I just read the latest deal flyer. I had no idea it was possible to market so many things with pumpkin flavoring....may need to look for some pumpkin skis....

yeah, thanks for reminding me on the Vectors. I'll keep my eye out.

Hey, the more folks who don't go to these swaps the better for me. I got some barely used phat luvs at the sky tavern swap, back when they were hot, for a Franklin. kiddie ski indeed.

PS if I named it Tahoe City XC I was mistaken. Its at the Tahoe X-C area adjoining Burton Creek State Park. Yep, mostly x-c crap that nobody wants. Don't bother to go.
