  • McLean Poaches Alaska…again.

Nice short write up and video from the Alaska Dispatch for some preseason stoke.

Ski mountaineer Andrew McLean dubbed a Wrangell Mountains zone with massive slot-like couloirs "The Slotterhouse."

That's really cool but I don't understand the thread title. Is it illegal to ski there?

sNaw nothing illegal. I guess he's more poaching on my future dream lines!

Planes are a long time tradition for mountaineers in the world since the 1930' , while our national parks in Alaska banned helis and still allow ski planes since 1975. They banned heli because hunters and alpinist felt it was a totally unfair advantage and everyone at the time agreed with that, the same as many who ski mountaineer. Because of that. There are still a few places where alpine traditions rule and there are still places that one can be first without a rotor tied to one's butt while landing on summits.

This video clip is an excerpt form the new Powderwhore movie, "Some Thing Else". You can order the DVD now direct from Powderwhore. Great ski flick, by the way.

Speaking of planes and mountaineering, from 1930, check out the movie,
"Storm over Mt Blanc" Great flying (and skiing) sequences!
