  • Exclusive Member Offer: $100 REI Gift Card. Is this legit?

So I am tempted, sign up for their Visa card, they send you a $100 gift card. Any downside?

From backpacking to cycling to staying in shape and more, outfit your outdoor activities with the latest gear, clothing, and footwear at REI.

It's legit. I have the REI card and enjoy the 1% rebate on all purchases made on it. I live just a couple of miles away from a REI store so the 'ship to store for free' option and easy returns make sense. Of course REI lacks in hardcore gear but I still find stuff to buy.

Why not, I just got 30,000 miles (i.e. an off season RT to Europe) for signing up for a United affinity Card. I think the deal is still out there and it was enough to bring me in. Course, you will have a membership fee if you don't cancel during the first year.

But, I guess you wouldn't be interested in a United affinity card.

No, I flew for an Airline for 32 years. I get pretty cheap flights; standby of course In fact, before 9-11 I could ride in the cockpit with United, American, etc. I jump-seated through Europe once on Lufthansa flights..

It's legit, but there are some hoops to jump through: you don't get the gift card until you use the credit card and pay the first bill. Read the fine print. But the card is a good one, no annual fee, reasonable interest rate (0% if you pay it off every month), 1% back on all purchases and an additional 5% back on ALL REI purchases including sale/clearance items and garage sale items.

I have the card and use it almost exclusively. Mr. QQ has no idea how big my REI dividend is.

And yes, I do work for REI.

I do like REI's return policies. I had an Ortovox Avy beacon that was acting up two years after I bought it. I didn't think it was safe for my son anymore, (if he had to find me under the snow!) and returned it to REI. They gave me a full refund, no questions asked.
