Does anyone have or have access to a remote backcountry cabin/shack/camp/shelter? If so, let's see them! I'm not talking about fancy-pants resort or public dwellings or well known public ski huts. I'm talking about private, remote lairs (legal or otherwise) that serve as basic shelter for skiing or any other wilderness adventure.
We live pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and around here, the locals have 'camps.' Ours is 12x16 single room, uninsulated camp with an old Jotul 602 wood stove for heat and cooking. The cabin is lit with kerosene lamps. We've got bunks that sleep 4. There's a spring that never freezes just below the cabin, providing clean water and brook trout. Winter access is by ski/snowmobile only. We average over 300 inches of snow/year and there are great views of Lake Superior. It's near the Huron mountains on some very remote property.
Up until 7 years ago, this place was rotting into the ground. We put on a new roof, new jack pine floors, poplar wall boards, new (used) door/windows, and gave it new footings. Being in the mid-west, XCD is the main mode of skiing, but there's some pretty good vertical and steep slopes that we hit, plus lots of terrain nearby that's yet to be explored on skis.
Mid-season 2013

Early this year/wind from the south

Late night/late season this year
