F1Race Where have you been all my life? Skinned around the land for a couple hours today and a few turns on an icy toboggan slope. I'm completely smitten. As expected liner is unusable huge but shell perfect. Aftermarket Intuitions from my TXP work well enough. Whenever I can get to the ski shop that looks after me, 3500k and many red zones away, I'll get some Intuition Pro Tour Wrap baked for them. Was someone looking for that OEM liner? I guess I have a pair of beat up but still serviceable Defenders for sale too. PM me here if interested
This website is basically like Tinder, but for folks who want to meet up with rare old ski boots. Congrats on the match!
hahaha!
I have scaffos (lower part of the boot) of some F1 Race (size 29.5/30 by modern Scarpa sizing) that I'd part with after using the upper cuffs for my successful TX Pro franken boots. The F1 race scaffos have BTS' duck butts already installed. I'd be happy to send to someone in exchange for shipping costs if it helps with a franken boot project. I have 29mp light wrap liners too for $50
One interesting excerpt from the petition: "why not petition Scarpa to fire up the old molds for another run of the F1 and/or F3 models, this time maybe even in Grilamid or Pebax instead of PU?!?!"
i am almost 100% certain f1 and f3 bellows are pebax. i have never heard of any other bellows material, certainly not from scarpa. And i am not aware of the rest of the shell being PU. PU gets really stiff at cold temps, and can crack. never heard of an F1 or F3 cracking. PU also gets softer at room temp. pebax has a much more consistent flex across temp. i have never noticed F1/F3 boots being any more temp sensitive than other pebax boots. plus i have never heard of a PU/pebax co-injection.
as for using grilamid, obviously not for the bellows. and for the rest of the molds, frankly, i think that's stupid. A) girlamind is 1.01-1.06 gm/cc (unfilled, depending on which formulation, they use PA12, PA612, PA1010 and PA610 versions, and sub versions...) vs 1.01 for pebax. it is also a lot stiffer. the way those boots get light is by making the shells thinner due to the stiffer material. just using giralmid in the same molds would make for super stiff boots.
could be wrong, but don't think so.
i supposed the defender may well be PU, its a price point and not performance boot?
