Sweet looking boots. I've already got 2 pairs (one race and one regular) in my size but at that price I'd buy those ebay ones if they fit. All you working on boot mods need to try out a pair of F1s.

I'm a size 27 and thought about getting those and swapping in a high-volume liner, but can't bring myself to do it. Good deal for someone.

I know the liner is more heavy duty -- as you would expect from a product designed for military use -- so perhaps that's the bulk of the difference. Still, won't see many Defenders competing in the Sellaronda.
Back when I had F3s and Defenders I weighted them and seem to remember that 90% of the extra weight was the liner. I think the only difference in the shell was heavier buckles.

If anyone can confirm this, I would pull the trigger on a set of defenders. For some reason there seem to be more available lately than F3's. I assumed they were made of some thicker/heavier plastic, but I can replace liners and buckles.

                Anyone?

The F3 shell is bi-injection molded, so 2 different types of plastic, whereas the Defender is all one type. This probably affects performance and durability more than it does weight, though.

I've unloaded the Defenders I've owned, so I too am just working off of quantification-free memories, but the shells sure seemed to be heavier beyond just the buckles and liners (which DEFINITELY were heavier).

I just check my notes and the F3 was 1340g in size 29, defender was 1400g in size 29. Both weights without liners. I might have pictures of my scale to confirm deep in Google photos but didn't feel like looking

There are some Garmont Kenai NTN boots on eBay right now. Not tech toe compatible, but could make for a good retrofit project or relatively lightweight setup with Freedoms.
