  • Beacon Basin BBQ

Just a wild idea here. I'm in the midst of updating reviews of beacons for EYT (and others). You wanna talk about tedious and boring?

The big thing I must guess at is how others perceive the user friendliness. Maybe some of you are looking to buy a new beacon. Maybe this is just an excuse to do some practice with others. Or meet the faces behind the characters on this forum.

I'll throw a BBQ for those interested. Beer and munchies on me. Location: Truckee. Time? TBD - depending on interest. My guess, y'all'd rather go mt. biking than fiddle with beacons, but on the odd chance a few of you are interested I'm throwing it out there.

Actually that sounds great to an old analog engineer, buy hey, it is the wrong time zone...

Lynn and I would be in, we have first and second generation Trackers with no plans on replacing them. How about a combo Mt.
Bike tour in the AM and beacon afterwards or even better combine the two. Of course this has a window of time as probably only a few weeks left for biking around Truckee.

There is some great trails maybe five mins from Craig's house.

I'm very interested but with limited availability. So don't plan on me but if you do it, I will try to get there.
It's turns! Of course it's worth the hike!

I am totally in; if you do it in Utah.

I am very interested in haring how 1st and 2nd gen Trackers stack up to newer beacons; seeing as those are the two beacons I have.

Nah, I'm providing beer, maybe even something stronger. That'd be a sin in Utah.

It is more fun when it is forbidden.

Get off your butt dude, I-80 is for cruisin.

I'll attend just to prove my curmudgeon credentials. My beacon runs on coal, and needs to be updated if I start chasing the dragon again. But won't be in the area until late Oct.

Okay, looks like either 25oct14 or 01nov14 with a lil' time spent spinning the wheels in the neighbourhood of the cannibal's camp (Donner). You can check out pretty much any beacon you'd be interested in - Pieps (DSP), Arva (Neo), Mammut (Pulse, Element), BCA (Tracker, T2, T3), Ortovox (3+, S1). Not required but you might want to bring your own to "calibrate" your skills.

Edited to add: I'm game to bike elsewhere, so I'm open to suggestions from attendees.

Sure, that would work for us. BTW, Lynn and I are going to camp at Prosser Creek campground tomorrow and Wed. We usually stay at the second camp area called "Prosser". Going to ride Euro Valley tomorrow and Emigrant trail toward Stampede on Wed if anyone is interested.

Will there be a church service with choir? How about some apple cider? Either day works for me.

2pm work for y'all? Let's go for Oct. 26th. I'm hoping we get sidetracked with other options in November - like skiing.

JFB - let me know if you're in so I get enough 'dogs or chicks for the BarB.
